Ian Stuart, Director
Ian is Director and Founder at rupe. He has a wealth of experience as a consultant and solution architect of building large scale data warehouses, data management systems and reporting & analytics solutions.
He first started programming as a trainee land surveyor in 1980 and took his Masters Degree in Information Systems in 1995 which included Artificial Intelligence and Database Management Systems. Thereafter he has worked as a consultant delivering database and reporting solutions for clients across the globe in a variety of sectors.
Ian is a Power BI expert and has delivered consulting and training in Power BI since it was first released in 2015. He has trained over 11,000 people and averages 95% (4.75/5) satisfaction rating.
Additionally Ian is a Data Storytelling Best Practices and Principles aficionado having learned from Stephen Few in 2015 and is now partnered with Nick Desbarats. Ian delivers training and coaching in this discipline and is passionate about the importance of effective data communication.
Ian lives with his wife and dog in Kent, UK and has three grown up children and two grandsons. In his spare time Ian is mostly in the garden nowadays but was a keen paraglider pilot and he has been known to tread the boards in some amateur dramatics productions.
Roger Light, Principal Consultant
Roger is a Principal Consultant at Rupe, specialising in data analytics, dimensional modelling and strategy. He brings nearly two decades of experience helping organisations design and deliver end‑to‑end data and analytics solutions across sectors including higher education, retail, aviation and charities.
As a child of the '80s his first experience of computing encompassed failing to get a ZX81 to do anything other than crash, followed by gaming and largely mischievous programming on a BBC Micro.
Roger began his career in technology in the late 1990s as a junior software engineer after completing a history degree. He found that many skills translated remarkably well from historical studies to programming and data work, including source quality assessment, causal and dependency evaluation, and understanding of human intent within organisational processes.
Roger is passionate about helping organisations build sustainable solutions and operating models that empower teams to use data confidently and effectively long after an engagement ends.
Roger lives in Reading with his wife and daughter.
Kelsey Pearson, Consultant
Kelsey has several years of experience in data analysis and reporting across higher education and healthcare. She combines technical skills in Power BI, R, MySQL, Python, and Excel with a genuine enjoyment of problem-solving and helping others make sense of their data.
After completing a biochemistry degree, Kelsey started her data journey as a Data Assistant at the Edinburgh Transplant Centre, NHS Lothian, later becoming Data Manager/Analyst. Working mainly in R, MySQL and Excel, she developed automated monthly reports and delivered ad-hoc projects. She worked directly with transplant consultants and nurses to understand their data needs and introduced new ways of working within the Data team to help them stay motivated and track progress together.
She went on to become a Business Intelligence Analyst at the University of Edinburgh, developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards and contributing to data quality improvements that supported better decision-making.
Kelsey joined rupe in 2025 as a Data & Analytics Consultant. She turns her hand to whatever the business needs, from content creation and training administration to running public Power BI training sessions and client consultations, and loves helping people solve problems and build confidence with their data.
Outside of work, Kelsey does a bit of everything: baking, running (well, sometimes), crocheting, and a spot of sewing. She's also an avid reader and is always happy to hear a book recommendation.
